Just watched it the old fashioned way, and somehow managed to avoid spoilers for 18 hours.

And that was gloriously absurd. It reminded me, in a good way of the 2005 reinvention of the franchise, with Russell T Davies somehow blending silly with scary and making it work as event TV. Just like then, I don't know if there will be too much rewatch value, but unlike then, I'm not sure how I feel about this as part of the Doctor Who legacy.

I'm still not cool with the genre switch.

But, I have to say that I was entertained to my bones by the show for the first time in years. Just like you say mbilko, daft grins all around.

Well it was different and a lot of energy put into it by the main actors. I preferred the Beatles episode and loved that jivy musical ending LOL.

Made it halfway through Space Babies.
Really heavy going.
Not sure I can be ar*ed with this incarnation or his partner not doing anything for me.

I know what you mean, felt like a lot of "okay let's pretend nobody has ever watched Doctor Who before and we need to explain everything about him in one episode" but the pay off at the end of the episode was worth it for me.

There is a Doctor who aftershow for each episode, that was on at midnight and gives 'behind the scenes' information. And on space babies they showed you the technical wizardry to make the babies lips synchronise with the speech using a computer program, which was wasted on me as all I saw on my small screen was lips moving up and down LOL. I got 'alien air lock' vibes at the end of that show expecting Ripely to show up.

I preferred the Beatles episode even though the songs were deliberately mince, through written by a musical expert according to the aftershow, and he said it took 15 seconds to write them. I though the American drag queen was just perfect as the baddie, and put 'her' soul into the performance, and the Doctor and assistant was FAB doing the dance routine at the end.

So 'Space babies' 6/10 and 'The devils chord' 9/10

Well I would be seriously worried about the awful ratings, 2.6 and 2.4 million for the 1st 2 episodes is shocking, I hope when iplayer watches are added it will be decent but if not, were doomed, doomed I tell you :)

Give it a chance...

Next episode is called BOOM. Caught in the middle of a devastating war on Kastarion 3, the Doctor is trapped when he steps on a landmine. Can he save himself and Ruby, plus the entire planet... without moving?
