First Televisions with Dolby Volume Unveiled for US and Europe
Las Vegas, January 8, 2009At the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB), will highlight the first television sets for the US and European markets that feature Dolby® Volume audio technology. The company will also demonstrate the latest entertainment innovations that feature Dolby's world-class audio technologies, including home entertainment systems, PCs, and mobile devices.
Located at booth 20901 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, Dolby is highlighting new televisions and audio-video receivers featuring Dolby Volume. A breakthrough audio-processing technology, Dolby Volume provides a consistent volume level across all content sources and creates a reference-quality listening experience at any level. Devices featuring Dolby Volume are the new Toshiba RegzaTM series LCD televisions for the European, Japan, and US markets, and the Harman Kardon® AVR 7550HD audio-video receiver (AVR), which earned the prestigious 2009 International CES Best of Innovations Design and Engineering award.

Enlivening HD Entertainment
At ICES 2009, Dolby is demonstrating Dolby Pro Logic® IIz, its newest matrix decoding technology designed to add new dimension and spaciousness to home entertainment systems. Dolby Pro Logic IIz utilizes front height channels to create three-dimensional effects for a 7.1 or a 9.1 channel listening experience and is backwards-compatible with Dolby Pro Logic IIx technology. Dolby is featuring a prototype Dolby Pro Logic IIz 7.1 AV receiver from ONKYO in its exhibit. Dolby is also showing Dolby TrueHD, a lossless compression technology developed for high-definition disc-based media and Dolby Digital Plus which delivers up to 7.1 channels of surround sound with better-than-DVD sound quality.
Dolby Digital Plus, recently adopted in France for high-definition television broadcasting., is featured in televisions from Panasonic, Pioneer, and Sony; a set-top box from Humax, and Vudu's movie download service.
Nearly 70 home audio systems and 50 Blu-ray Disc players from 30 companies around the world use Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, or both.
Enhancing the Sound in a Broad Range of Devices
At its booth, Dolby is showcasing PCs, mobile phones, and peripherals that feature its premium technologies. Today, four of the world's top five PC makers, and mobile handset makers LG and Sharp, offer products with Dolby audio technologies. These include:
