Blurayrevolution.co.uk: the new online authority on Blu-ray

HOME ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY COLLABORATES TO LAUNCH NEW BLU-RAY WEBSITE

January 2009 - The British Video Association today announces the launch of a new cross-industry website - Blurayrevolution.co.uk - that aims to become the online Blu-ray authority. The new site is a collaborative venture between hardware manufacturers, film studios and distributors supporting the Blu-ray format*. The aim of the site is to raise public awareness about the benefits of Blu-ray and to provide a one-stop source of Blu-ray news, as well as information about new and forthcoming title releases and hardware player launches.
The site will provide a search engine for all Blu-ray titles, with latest releases showcased in a video player on the front page of the site. After browsing the latest titles, consumers will also be able to click through to dedicated retail sites to purchase their chosen title.

One of the current barriers to broader adoption of Blu-ray among mainstream consumers is misunderstanding of the hardware components needed to deliver maximum high-definition images and sound in the home. With that in mind, Blurayrevolution.co.uk features interactive guides which explain how consumers can get the best out of their equipment and the importance of having an HD-ready TV, a Blu-ray player and a Blu-ray disc to obtain the highest-quality home entertainment possible. Consumers can find information on what types of Blu-ray disc players are available - covering stand-alone players, games consoles such as PS3, and computers. All products featured on the site are linked back to the manufacturers' own websites.

The launch of Blurayrevolution.co.uk comes amid increasing optimism for the growth of the format in 2009. Blu-ray disc sales are forecast to rise to over 17 million over the next 12 months, according to Screen Digest, which equates to 7% of current DVD volumes, but 14% of DVD sales value. Hardware sales of stand-alone Blu-ray disc players are expected to hit one million this year, with the total Blu-ray hardware installed base in the UK hitting 4 million; 1.2 million stand-alone players and 2.8 million PS3 units.

Hannah Conduct, Marketing Manager of the British Video Association, says: "This is an excellent new online facility for both consumers and the home entertainment industry. Blurayrevolution.co.uk is the only official UK site which gives such comprehensive information about both the software and hardware products available in the market. As Blu-ray is now the next generation format for hi-def home entertainment, we expect to see sales going from strength to strength in 2009. Blurayrevolution.co.uk will be an invaluable source of news, releases and advice on this exciting product."
