Heinz Tomato Ketchup is Favourite Branded Product
Heinz Tomato Ketchup is the household brand British mums refuse to go without, according to a new survey.
Despite falling on hard times, 52 per cent of mums won't give up on their favourite branded products in light of the credit crunch.
In fact, Heinz appears three times in the top 20 list of best household brands, with tomato ketchup at number one, baked beans at two and tomato soup at number seven.
Heinz Tomato Ketchup has been a firm family favourite since its invention back in 1876, and 62 per cent of mums claim they would have to struggle to afford to the weekly shop before buying supermarket branded red sauce.
The poll of 3,000 mums, conducted by www.TheBabyWebsite.com put Heinz baked beans, 'loved by families across the UK since first being manufactured in the UK in the 1920's', at second place.
And Cadburys Chocolate takes third place in the poll, as mums agree other branded chocolate and supermarket brands just don't taste as good.
Walker's crisps take fourth place in the list, Coca Cola comes fifth and Fairy Washing Up liquid, renowned for 'making hands that do dishes as soft as your face' comes sixth.
Heinz Tomato soup, Kellogg's Cornflakes, Nescafe Coffee and Hellmann's Mayonnaise complete the top 10 list.
Kathryn Crawford, spokeswoman for www.TheBabyWebsite.com said: "Brands such as Heinz, Cadburys, Kelloggs and Nescafe have been household names for years.
"Mums have got used to the quality, the reliability, the taste and the familiarity of these brands, so it comes of no surprise to learn that these are the ones we refuse to go without during the credit crunch.
"Many mums agree that supermarket alternatives simply don't always live up to expectation, and don't last as long as their branded counterparts.
"However, as the months progress and the recession starts to impact on UK households more and more, we are sure mums will consider dropping the old 'faithfuls' for cheaper replacements."
The poll revealed that just under half of all mums refuse to scrimp on household brands for their family, despite feeling guilty for spending too much money.
But 52 per cent of mums also admit they would consider dropping some of their favourite branded products if they couldn't afford to pay the bills.
And 38 per cent say they would only give up things like Tampax, Andrex Toilet Rolls and Comfort Softener if they couldn't afford to pay for their mortgage.
Another third would make more cut-backs if they lost their job - but 14 per cent claim nothing would make them give up their family favourites.
A further 19 per cent admit they feel embarrassed displaying budget items such as own brand washing up liquid and hand wash to guests.
