WWE Judgment Day 2009
You know with WWE not putting any work into their PPV DVDs (other than Mania and a few other exceptions) you wonder why they don't just release a best of the PPVs disk at the end of the year? Judgment Day 2009 wasn't a bad PPV for WWE, but for those who watched it live, there is very little that you'd want to relive. Of the seven matches none are totally unwatchable (even Orton/Batista has its moments). The Miz's five minutes of cheap heat comedy wasn't funny and the addition of Santino didn't make it any better. Then the addition of Chavo? Just bizarre and I'm sure there was a reason for this, but as this was never really explained then it all just fell flat. WWE can do better than what's presented on this PPV, but if you asked me to prove it with examples, I'd struggle.
On with the show:
CM Punk vs Umaga
A great match. Good back and forth, though I wish they didn't focus so much on Cm Punk attempting to lift Umaga. First time fine, second fine... third and fourth? I stopped caring! But a good way to start the PPV.
ECW Championship
Christian vs Jack Swagger
A good match...but not a great match, I love watching Christian, but to be honest this isn't a match I'd purposely watch again.
Shelton Benjamin vs John Morrison
This is the future of the WWE. And if that's the case the future of the WWE will be technically sound, but dull as dishwater. As much as I love both of these guys I just couldn't get into this. I couldn't even figure out who I was supposed to cheer for?
Intercontinental Championship
Rey Mysterio vs Chris Jericho
A great match. Possibly match of the night-or a close tie with the main event. Jericho and Mysterio were able to work a great almost X-Division match that saw some great action from both Jericho and Mysterio. The ending was sudden and I almost didn't even notice it. Great match!
WWE Championship
Randy Orton vs Batista
If this is the future of the WWE then it will not be technically sound in any way! Horrible, brutal match. The shock interruption at the end wasn't so much a shock, more a EH? I usually complain when a Championship match is below another match, but I can understand why WWE did not want to leave us with the taste of this match in our mouths!
John Cena vs Big Show
I hate when they try and make a big deal about Cena defeating the Big Show. It's something he has done many times before! Yes, the first time we saw him FU him it was shocking but that was in 2004... 5 years on and it ain't that impressive anymore. A typical Cena match. Good, but not great.
World Heavyweight Championship
Edge vs Jeff Hardy
I love watching Edge and Jeff Hardy wrestle. Though we could argue every match is the same and it's just a mish mash of spots from every match Jeff and/or Edge have ever been in, the fact is that's what wrestling is all about. Edge and Jeff have the great Heel/Face chemistry that made The Rock/Austin so great to watch. This was the perfect way to end the night.
As with most WWE PPVs the extras are... well... they only involve a short (and by short, I mean less than a minute) backstage thing between Batista and 'an old friend' which isn't really worth watching and so I'm not sure why they added it. A few matches from the TV shows that occured before or after to set up the PPV or show the aftermath of the results would have been nice, but sadly all we have is the PPV which though good isn't exactly the kind of thing you will watch over and over. For fans of Edge and Jeff Hardy, you will enjoy the match they put on and there's enough good stuff for those who just want a quick WWE fix.
