The List
If you have ever been dumped this film might be what you need to show you that there are others out there. Lewis (Wayne Brady) is dumped on live TV by his long-term girlfriend (Tatyana Ali) and then spends the rest of the film trying to bounce back from this event having created a list of all the things this new girl should be. It's Romantic Comedy 101 time! Boy loses girl. Boy finds another girl. And so the journey begins. Throw in a best friend (Flex Alexander), a nemesis of sorts (Matthew Glave) and a whole host of one scene hot women and you have your typical comedy. At times it works and at just over ninety minutes it doesn't outstay its welcome. However, this film feels at times like every Wayans film ever created...only it doesn't have the 9/10 talent of the Wayans. It is the typical playas getting their thang on with dialogue which felt very dated and the general feeling that if they say it loud and fast it will therefore translate as funny. Sadly it is hit and miss.
The highlight for me and probably what will be plastered all over the promotion of this film is the inclusion of Jane Lynch, who is currently starring on the smash hit TV show Glee. As star of a 'Blind Date' type show her little moments throughout are wonderful, but because they are simply moments it isn't enough to even remember any of them.
With no special features, this film has to get by on its own merits and it does... barely. I mean a trailer or something would have been nice and with so many good comedians in the film I cannot believe that the filming did not have a gag reel worth of footage on it!
The List is one of those films that will not make it on anyone's Top Ten Films list, but is certainly worth a watch, just don't expect anything mind blowing or the greatest comedy ever made.
