Review for WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs
Once again, WWE have decided to theme their PPVs, but this time it works. By at least giving us variations on the stipulation it has made the PPV a lot less like watching the same match over and over again. These may not be the best examples of Tables, Ladders or Chairs matches, but they are certainly not bad examples either.
ECW Championship
Ladder Match
Christian vs. Shelton Benjamin
Possibly two of the best in the WWE. Also the two most underutilized people in the WWE. This match was great, with some great points. Both men showed exactly why they are deserving a push in the ring and though Christian will get there eventually, Shelton always seems to lack in the personality department.
Intercontinental Championship
John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre
It seems odd that there was not given a stipulation, but it was a good match, a lot of back and forth, but no different to any match on TV and didn't really feel like a PPV match.
Women's Championship
Michelle McCool vs. Mickie James
I love Mickie James... I hate Michelle McCool and her 'Piggy James' thing isn't as funny as Matt Striker tries to convince me it is. But I was so happy to see Mickie get the opportunity to kick the tar out of her. That didn't quite happen, instead I got an interesting match that wasn't as bad as it could have been.
WWE Championship
Tables Match
John Cena vs. Sheamus
I actually enjoyed this match. It was a lot better than I expected... BUT... this match had such a stupid ending and for me it is odd that it would be this low on the card to make the impact that it should have.
World Heavyweight Championship
Chairs Match
The Undertaker vs. Batista
Although I still don't understand the idea of a 'Chairs' match, I didn't mind this match. Sure, it wasn't an instant classic or the best from either, but a fine match. And finally a screwjob that I actually didn't mind happening.
Kofi Kingston vs. Randy Orton
This again did not feel like a PPV match. It was nice that someone like Kofi Kingston is being given this spotlight, but really I didn't enjoy the match and found it rather slow, dull and boring.
Unified Tag Team Championship
TLC
DX vs. Jerishow
This was a great match. It was given enough time to mean something and some of the spots that went on just had me wondering how anyone is still walking after all this. All four get some good offence in and you can really see why WWE use these guys in the main event as often as they do. Such a good way to end the PPV.
Of all the lazy 'stipulation themed' PPVs WWE have produced in 2009, TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs is easily the best. However, that is not to say it is perfect, but it had enough moments of greatness to recommend the DVD, especially to all ladder match fans out there.
