Review for Robot Chicken Season Four
Robot Chicken is a show you either love or hate. Some people dislike the ultra Un-PC nature of the comedy, with references to rape, drugs and violence of every kind. However, if you can look past that you will find hours of hilarious comedy here. What I love about Robot Chicken is that as sketches are sometimes less than a few seconds it feels a lot like reading a classic three pane comic.
Sketches range from an Opera version of Wrath of Khan, The Hills (Have Eyes) and much more. Hannah Montana being shown the horror of what will happen if she gets pregnant. It reveals the recipe for the Power Puff Girls 'Sugar, Spice and Cocaine'. OJ and Roger Rabbit playing out Strangers on the Train, a Shawshank parody with all of Batman's villains in Arkham Asylum and what happens when you can't afford the A-Team, you get the B-Team. It also includes the hilarious Christmas episode and a very dark version of Horton Hears a Who! As well as the usual mix featuring characters from Transformers, He-Man, MASK and DC and Marvel characters. What always set this show apart from a lot of others was the fact that even when they were making fun of celebrities or people, they were often able to get the real person to provide the voice including Billy Dee Williams, Hulk Hogan, Zac Ephron, Joss Whedon and Seth MacFarlane.
Both disks are packed with extras including commentaries on every episode, plus commentaries on selected sketches which are all pretty good and considering how short some of the sketches are this is perfect. A ten minute section from San Diego Comic-Con 08 and New York Comic-Con 09 panel which would have benefited from subtitles as the audio is terrible on San Diego one. Day in the life is a behind the scenes of some of the unsung technical people from the show from Animator to Executive Assistant. This is interesting if you want to see how much work went into the show, but could have been better if they had included one from the voice actors, writers or directors too.
Robot Chicken Season Four is another triumph in dark comedy. If you are easily shocked or are devoid of a sense of humour then you would be best to avoid this. However, anyone who liked having their funnybone tickled will get many, many laughs from this series and if you haven't go find the other Seasons and Star Wars specials too!
