Six days into a new year resolution...
So here I am. Six whole days into a New Year resolution.
I recently took stock of the DVD 'pending pile' and realised that, thanks to some amazing deals and no small amount of DVD gluttony on my part, that my 'pending pile' might well extend beyond my remaining years. So I resolved to stop buying DVD's and Blu-Rays for the next 365 days, and to make a sensible indent into the pile that I already own. Three days in and HMV announce that they are closing 60 stores. Coincidence? The pending pile includes some really great stuff that I haven't watched yet but I have already started making in-roads. I'm watching 'Kolchak the Night Stalker' as I write this. (£7 at Amazon for a 5 disc, 20 episode set - what's a DVD addict to do?!). Despite an appalling transfer I'm loving every moment. More treats in store include the following: TV (Complete Series) - The Munsters / The Addams Family / I Dream of Jeannie / Get Smart / Lost in Space / Battlestar Galactica (old and new) / Star Trek - The Original Series (and animated) / Bewitched (8 seasons!) yada yada yada. Movie sets include sets like W.C Fields, Buster Keaton, Half the Laurel and Hardy's (the one's I haven't got to), dozens of British comedies from the fifties and sixties, that Hammer box set plus dozens of other sixties and seventies horrors, yada yada yada.
I'm feeling pretty good but I'm not even quite a week in. I saw a post on a bargain forum that had all nine seasons of Family Guy for under £50 and nearly 'clicked' but held off. I also noted that Boris Karloff's complete 'Thriller' (a great set replete with many extras) was under £40 at Amazon.com - but left that hanging too. The only aching hole in my collection seems to be 'The Man from Uncle'. I could get that complete (I have the R2 released movies x 6) for circa £70 but that will have to wait for 2012.
