Political documentary God Bless America: Gore Vidal arrives on DVD this 4th July
GOD BLESS AMERICA: GORE VIDAL (E)
In 1995, Granada Television's series GOD BLESS AMERICA invited American writers to explore their native cities, reflecting upon the changes, for better or worse, that have taken place, and exploring wider themes within American society. This volume focuses on Gore Vidal and is available to own on Independence Day 2011, RRP £7.99.
In this remarkable film, author, playwright, essayist and political activist Gore Vidal visits the Washington of his childhood and youth. He revisits his old school, joins a conducted tour of the Pentagon and attends a presidential press conference; he observes the Vietnam War Veterans' ceremony, and National Police Memorial Day, both of which are attended by President Clinton. Reflecting on the changes that have taken place in the city, Vidal also considers the continuing division of rich white and poor black, and the problem of law and order; ultimately, he questions whether the magnificent monuments of Washington, D.C. hide a nation that is now in decline.
