Review for WWE Elimination Chamber 2011
The Elimination Chamber is a wonderful concept for a match. A mix of the Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Hell in a Cell it's almost the ultimate survival match. Other than the Rumble, it is one of the few PPVs that I look forward to and it doesn't matter who is in the match I always enjoy it.
This year we got two matches featuring the Raw Number One Contendership and one for the Smackdown World Heavyweight Title. My only issue with the Elimination Chamber is that they never fill it with main eventers, there is always one or two who you know are just fodder and never real contenders in the match. Both matches feature one or two that fit this description. HOWEVER, with the desperate need for new main eventers in the WWE (as can be seen by the pushing of Alberto Del Rio) it is possible that maybe this is the push that John Morrison or a R-Truth need to get them to the next level.
Both of these matches are wonderful to watch and though there have been more brutal matches in the past, these two are still filled with some great moments. The winners of both are well deserved and match makes you appreciate them even more. There are no real shocks as to the winners, but they are not disappointing either.
There are only three other matches on the PPV and they are so-so. The title match between The Miz and Jerry 'The King' Lawler was ok. It had a great story to it, but the actual inring performance is a little throwaway. The tag match between SantiKoz and Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater is fine, not exactly a great match, but fine for what it is and both teams work well together. The odd match up between Kofi Kingston and Alberto Del Rio is exactly that: Odd. It isn't for Kofi's Intercontinental title (making the belt seem even more useless) and though they work well together, I'm not quite sure what the match was supposed to achieve.
You will notice the lack of a Divas match. Thankfully I did not have to suffer an awful Divas match and that is a plus point in my book.
Elimination Chamber 2011 is a great event and though I'm not sure whether you will watch it again and again (and certainly not the matches), the actual Chamber matches are great and certainly deserve a second look.
