Review for Never Mind The Botox - Alex

Never Mind the Botox is a four book series, of which Alex is the first, about four professional women all working on the sale of high profile cosmetic surgery business "Beau Street Group". Each book is supposed to reveal how the women cope with one of the most glamorous but challenging deals of their careers and the dramatic impact it has on their personal lives. With a briefcase in one hand and a glass of wine in the other, can they navigate their way through a surreal world of boob jobs by day and intrigue by night - and still keep their own love lives on track?

Now when I read that precis, I feared the worst. It all sounds a bit airhead/WAG/bad chicklit. But it's actually much more of a legal thriller with some softer moments thrown in for good measure. More time is spent on the legal loopholes and ins and outs of mergers and acquisitions than is spent sobbing over lost boyfriends, going shopping for Radley handbags, Jimmy Choo shoes etc. This is an interesting read for men and women alike. More John Grisham than Kathy Lette.

It's nicely written, the story flows well and there's enough intrigue to keep you reading all the way through. And you'll definitely know someone like at least one of the characters in here - they are all pretty "real".
