Review for UFC 128 - Shogun vs. Jones
I always find that when it comes to UFC, it really depends on whether you care about who is fighting. Seems an obvious statement to make. UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones as you can guess was headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship match between champion Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua and Jon Jones, two fighters I have no interest in. This is a shame as Jones is ranked as the sixth best pound for pound fighter in the UFC and yet I have utterly no interest in watching him fight. Because of this I watched this event with a little apprehension. I ran down the card and literally did not care about a single match on the card. None. That is until I saw Mirko Filipovic vs. Brendan Schaub. I have always loved Mirko nicknamed CroCop as he had that 'Terminator' feel to him that you really thought that he would attack and just keep on going. Sadly, he hasn't had the greatest time since joining UFC, but this fight was a great return to form for him, despite the result. The rest of the fights are simply just a blur, though Edson Barboza vs. Anthony Njokuani and Brendan Schaub vs. Eric Koch were easily the best fights of the night. The two main events were fine in general Faber vs. Wineland was a good fight and Shogun vs. Jones was a shocker if I'm honest and though I had no excitement going in, it certainly proved me wrong.
UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones is an average PPV and one that only the real UFC fanatics who want a complete collection will go for. There are some great fights on here, but nothing here that demands you watch or re watch it.
