These vampires don't suck...
Introduction
When Aaron is rejected by Alex, the girl he has loved for so long, he thinks life couldn't get any worse... that is, until they're both attacked by Vampires. Desperate to save Alex, Aaron seeks help from the mysterious Ninjas, who wage a nightly war against evil forces. As the Vampires plot to destroy mankind, Aaron has only one choice - join the Ninjas, save the world and get his girl or, at least, die trying...
Video + Audio
As with another recent Left Films release, Cowboys and Zombies, this is low budget stuff, but the picture still looks good. Some special effects are needed, and whilst we're not talking ILM here, the effects are still pretty good, better than say 1980s Doctor Who effects...
No problems with the sound either, and it the choice of music that requisite feel for something modern gothic...
Extra Features
Extras too! Several commentary tracks featuring actors, director, writer, producer etc. which you'll probably enjoy. They have plenty to say about working on the film, and the whole process of getting it made and investing their life savings!
There are also deleted scenes, an alternate ending, a blooper reel, a Ninjas vs Comics feature (about the related comic series), footage from the US premiere, two music videos and the trailer. There's more here than on some big budget Hollywood releases, so credit to all involved.
Conclusion
You've probably been unable to escape the bombardment of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series of books for moody teenage girls who enjoy odd sentence structures and a story about a know it all girl who falls for a nice non-threatening vampire...
Vampires aren't supposed to be like that are they? They're supposed to be all Hammer Horror with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing...
What we get here is a kind of mish-mash of the two things I've described. This film seems to have been written by teenage boys who then took the cast to Ann Summers to go and buy their costumes (but they gave them a few quid so they didn't just get the cheapest stuff). None of this has to be a bad thing, and this film is certainly more fun than anything Twilight related.
Yes, this is never going to win any awards, but it's obvious that the film-makers are film fans, as there are some nice nods to other films here. It's low-budget but it's fun. A little slice of film-making that should bring a few smiles to the faces of b-movie fans.
