Review for WWE Over the Limit 2011
Over The Limit is possibly the stupidest name for a PPV that WWE have, but that is the least of this show's worries. With eight matches, it seemed that maybe WWE finally remembered what the second W stood for. However, of the eight matches only three are good and the rest are OK at best and at worst... Sheesh!!!
Rey Mysterio vs. R-Truth
Match of the night. Odd considering it probably wasn't meant to be. The R-Truth character is great and he works really well with Rey who I honestly thought may have looked awkward in this match. However a really good match and shows that with the right push, the right character development R-Truth is worth the hype the fans give him.
Intercontinental Championship Match
Wade Barrett vs. Ezekiel Jackson
An OK match. Both looked good and at least proved that they can work, but felt more like a TV match with both just going through the motions.
Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero
Poor Sin Cara! This really isn't the debut he deserved. I understand WWE wanting to keep the Sin Cara/Rey match for a while, but surely he could have gone against someone else. Just a throwaway match for what should have been a big deal.
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Big Show & Kane vs. CM Punk & Mason Ryan
A good match, not a great example of tag team wrestling, but both teams work well together and CM Punk is awesome as always.
Divas Championship Match
Brie Bella vs. Kelly Kelly
Awful! As much as I think the Bella Twins have a great Heel persona, it just doesn't work if they can't wrestle. Just watch the entrances and then fast forward.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Randy Orton vs. Christian
This was a good match, but it felt completely forgettable. Both work well togethr, but I feel that their match on Smackdown a few weeks earlier was much better than this one.
Kiss My Foot Match
Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. Michael Cole
Make it stop! This was painful. This was not entertaining by any stretch of the imagination. Michael Cole went from being the best Heel WWE had to just someone I did not want to see... as for Lawler... please just retire and stay retired.
"I Quit" Match for the WWE Championship
John Cena vs. The Miz
Didn't I see this last month? And the last few months before that??? I don't know what my reaction should be to this match. It was good, but certainly wasn't great. The problem is simple: PG. There is no way that you can do a brutal match like an I Quit match and still remain within the PG limits and this is why this match just felt wrong. Maybe if it had been a submission match they could have got away with it, as it is the match just felt bland.
Over the Limit is not an awful PPV, but certainly not one that I will relish watching again. In fact there is probably nothing on the PPV that I will remember or want to rewatch. It's not that the show wasn't entertaining (and it wasn't), it's that there is simply nothing here I would want to watch again. That's not the sign of a good show.
