Review for John Bishop Live: The Sunshine Tour
John Bishop is one of the funniest standup comedians that Britain currently has to offer. His first DVD was one of the fastest selling debut standup DVDs and this follow up will probably sell just as well with the quality of the comedy. Now, I have to admit I am from Liverpool and so this may all be a little biased, but it was wonderful to see Bishop at the Liverpool Echo Arena in this show. Sometimes, they make a point of filming a massive arena like London's O2, but I'm glad that they filmed this in his home town.
The show is the same as his last one and so if you don't like John Bishop you'll probably put this down now. It is simply just him on stage talking about his experiences. These include going Christmas Shopping, appearing on Top Gear and also a wonderful look at how he realised that he was now 'A Perv'. His stories flow easily and there is never the feeling that he is simply just going through the motions. Unlike other comedians, this also felt 100% original and not just bits from other performances or TV shows that he had done. One of the things that made the show even funnier was a wonderful beginning and enidng. I won't spoil them, but they are certainly highlights for me and definitely made me want to watch it all over again.
Extras includes Adverts, a section of Bishop trying for various adverts including Admiral Car Insurance and Bazuka Verruca gel. These are amusing though I wish there had been more of them. There is a behind the scenes look at him performing at Royal Albert Hall and is more a look at the history of the venue rather than Bishop's experience which is a little odd, but nice if you were interested in it. There is also a Behind the Scenes section and a look at how they created the wonderful ending (I won't spoil it). These are nice and the thing that really comes across through all of these is how much of a genuinely nice guy John Bishop is.
John Bishop The Sunshine Tour is one of the funniest stand up shows I have ever seen. As a huge Billy Connolly fan it pains me to say that Bishop may have usurped him for now as one of the funniest men in Britain and certainly one of the funniest men to ever leave Liverpool. The show is warm, entertaining and most importantly funny and if you are a fan of Bishop you will definitely want to buy this.
