A Field in England out in cinemas, DVD, TV and download all on the same day in July
Something we wonder might become more and more frequent as time goes on, a film arrives on 5th July and you'll be able to watch it pretty much any way you like on its release day.
Film4, Picturehouse Entertainment, 4DVD, Film4 Channel and the BFI Distribution Fund have all joined up for what is probably the first ever day and date release across all formats.
Ben Wheatley's A Field In England stars Michael Smiley, Peter Ferdinando, Reece Shearsmith, Julian Barratt, Richard Glover and Ryan Pope.
Now, for the really cool bit. On the release date you can see this in a number of cinema screens listed on the official website, at 10:45pm on the Film4 channel, by download either from iTunes or Film4OD, or on DVD and Blu-ray for around £13 and £14 respectively.
Both physical releases include a commentary track with cast and crew, interview with the director, trailer, camera test reel and Digital Masterclass featurette.
The Blu-ray contains over 75 minutes of in depth interviews and explanation of the entire film making process, whilst the DVD features 40 minutes of this material.
Synopsis and trailer follow...
England during the Civil War. A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by two men, O'Neil and Cutler.
O'Neil, an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field.
Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.
