    Anime Review Roundup

Cowboy Bebop Part 2 delayed until October 15th

Given that headline, it’s pretty self-evident that the next instalment of Cowboy Bebop has been delayed, along with the DVD complete series box. If you’re looking at Amazon, then the December date may cause more concern than it should. But Anime Limited have clarified the situation on Facebook, confirming the new release date of October 15th. Incidentally, that’s when Perfect Blue comes out as well, and that’s the release date for the Shinkai collection, although Anime Limited have hinted at a delay for the latter release for positive reasons on the Anime UK News forums.

Two reviews last week, beginning with a look at Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: Part 1 on Blu-ray. The moment that I saw Part 3 on Blu-ray earlier this year, it became inevitable that I’d be picking up the first two volumes to round off the collection. Some people are still unconvinced about the benefits of Blu-ray over DVD, but it became crystal clear for me when I watched the DVD and Blu-rays of Brotherhood back to back. It’s anime storytelling at its finest, and well worth making the double dip for, but just as with the DVDs, Part 1 isn’t the most ideal example of how good the show actually is, especially if you have seen the original series.

Finally I rounded off the week with a review for Bleach: Series 11, which is actually Season 12 but... You know, DVD distributors really should have a care for how they treat consumers with OCD. Suffice it to say, if you are following the Japanese numbering of the series, this may just irk. Of course the ridiculous filler episodes may irk. Or indeed the stereotypical shonen storytelling style, complete with extreme flashbacks, testosterone filled posturing, and ridiculously large swords may irk, in which case you’re probably watching Bleach for the same reason I review it, out of some misplaced sense of obligation. But! Season 11 does have a swimsuit episode. Rejoice and give thanks.

Bleach: Series 11 was released last Monday by Manga Entertainment on behalf of Kazé. Manga released Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: Part 1 on Blu-ray back in 2010 along with the DVD. Next month they’ll release the second half of the complete collection.
