Two anime reviews for you this week, and due to the size of boxsets and relative lateness in check discs arriving, it looks like I’ll be playing catch up for the next few weeks. First up to the old Blu-ray player was Mardock Scramble: The Third Exhaust. It’s the final chapter of the Mardock Scramble story, the cyberpunk tale of a girl left for dead by a serial killer, but brought back to life as a cyborg, assigned a genetically engineered, shape-shifting mouse as a partner, and set a mission to seek justice against her tormentor. But the line between justice and vengeance is a blurry one in the world of Mardock Scramble.
Then it was the turn of Robotics;Notes Part 1. The semi-colon might have tipped you off that this is from the same stable as Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate. You’ll hope that it’s better than the former, and wish that it might just be as good as the latter. Robotics;Notes lies somewhere in-between, but suffers from comparisons with Steins;Gate. Let’s face it, anything would suffer from being compared to that outstanding show. But taken on its own merits, Robotics;Notes near future tale of a high school robotics club getting involved in a far reaching conspiracy does more than enough to warrant your interest. Click on the review to read more.
Mardock Scramble: The Third Exhaust was released on DVD and Blu-ray by Manga Entertainment on behalf of Kaze on the 4th of August, while Manga released Robotics;Notes Part 1 last Monday on Blu-ray and DVD.
