Review for WWE Survivor Series 2014
Survivor Series is one of the best loved PPVs in the WWE's year and this year is no different. With this PPV it finally looked like The Authority would either crumble or finally dominate the WWE. John Cena assembled a team who all could be fired if they lost and The Authority were looking at a loss of power if their team lost. But there may be a little surprise that will put a sting in the Authority's plan.
This PPV features six matches of these only two are traditional Survivor Series elimination matches. This is a shame as unlike most of the other themed PPVs this is one that really should rely on that stipulation. The opening Fatal 4-Way for the Tag Championships is fine, but should have had the elimination element to make it more in line with the PPV. I am never a fan of the Fatal 4-Way concept and even JBL comments on how the actual setup of the match makes no sense. The match is fun, but nothing special.
The 4 on 4 Divas Survivor Series match is painful. That's really all I can say. I don't understand what it was supposed to achieve other to include multiple gorgeous women in one match. In the ring, the match was almost unwatchable even with Paige and Natalya trying their best.
Dean Ambrose against Bray Wyatt was a really good match and certainly a highlight of the night. Both have great characters and the story leading in was just fantastic. It is a shame that there was nothing on the line, but I enjoyed every second of it and the ending was wonderful.
Adam Rose and The Bunny against Slater/Gator was a match I could have done without. I will admit that the whole 'Rosebuds' thing and the music I like, but everything in the ring was just bad and I'm not sure who is playing The Bunny, but it really shouldn't be on a PPV when so many people are missed out.
WWE Divas Championship between AJ Lee and Nikki Bella could have been bad, but it actually pulled a good match from its ending. It was a surprise and I did not see it coming. Granted, it is certainly not a great match and certainly not a match I will remember, but it is certainly not a bad match and both are great throughout.
Finally, we have the 5 on 5 Survivor Series match between Team Cena and Team Authority. This is one of the most entertaining Survivor Series matches I have seen in a long time. On Team Cena we had Dolph Ziggler, Big Show, Ryback, Erick Rowan and John Cena against Team Authority consisting of Seth Rollins, Luke Harper, Mark Henry, Rusev and Kane. All five from both teams had great moments and it would be easy to say that Dolph Ziggler shined in this match, but I think everyone did. I will not spoil the ending (Though the cover does that anyway), but I do feel the ending was a little less of a shock and more of a 'Huh?' moment. It was surprising, but didn't have the sudden impact that a special appearance usually has.
Survivor Series 2014 is a good PPV. The main event and Ambrose/Wyatt matches are both great and though the rest is a little lackluster it's not completely unwatchable. I would say if you want to see some great young talent and some great tag team wrestling, then this is the PPV for you and if you can survive the awful Divas match there is a wonderful main event to end with.
