Review for WWE Battleground 2015

Battleground is proof, if proof is ever needed that Brock Lesnar is one of the biggest stars the WWE or indeed Sports Entertainment has. This match was also exactly what Seth Rollins needed to show he was worthy to hold the championship. However, the event itself felt like any other PPV. There were some good matches, but it felt like everything was just a promo for Summerslam. That's not a bad thing, but some of the matches felt like any Raw or Smackdown match.

Sheamus against Randy Orton was ok, not an amazing match or anything, but you would never think either were main eventers or that Sheamus held the Money in the Bank briefcase. Possibly the worst push of a Money in the Bank winner in a long time.

The tag team championship match between The Prime Time Players and The New Day was a fantastic tag match. Both teams worked well together and I love the attitude of both teams. Lots of great action and I feel like if WWE could trust them a bit more they could put on an amazing lengthier match.

Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns was a wonderful build, though it did just feel like a rehash of his feud with Cena. The match is good. It wasn't great, as at times it felt a little slow and plodding and the ending wasn't as shocking as a lot of people made out. If I'm honest it felt more a step backwards (though if it gets Wyatt back to where he was I have no issue with that).

The big build throughout the PPV was the Triple Threat between the three new Divas Factions Team Bad, Team PCB and Team Bella. The whole event had cuts to the teams deciding who would be competing which ended up being Brie Bella, Charlotte and Sasha Banks. The match could have been perfect. The reason it isn't is simple: Brie is simply horrible in the ring. Charlotte (Ric Flair's daughter) and Sasha who was NXT Women's Champion at the time, are wonderful and when the match is just them it is some great examples of women's wrestling, but every now and again Brie had to come back into the ring and despite trying to do imitate husband Daniel Bryan's moves, it just doesn't work.

However, this was one of the best women's matches I have seen in a very long time and gives me hope that the 'Divas Revolution' is real and not just something WWE will forget about in a few weeks... like the tag team revitalisation which lasted all of a few PPVs.

Kevin Owens against John Cena for the US Championship could and should have been the match that made Owens the next big superstar. Instead, it was just a match. Yes he did look good against Cena, but this match should have had ONE finish and only ONE to make it seem like this feud with worthwhile. But not the one we were given. Shame.

Brock Lesnar against Seth Rollins was as amazing as I expected. My only problem with this match was that I feel it hurt Rollins as a champion. This felt like the match between Cena and Lesnar from last year where he was destroyed by Lesnar. I felt like there should have been more of an emphasis that Rollins could hold his own with Lesnar, but it didn't feel like they wanted to show that and it made him look a little weak. The ending was pure spectacle and I have to admit that if you say you saw it coming then you are lying. This was a shocking moment and despite the bitter taste the ending had, it made sense and sometimes that is all that matters.

This Blu-ray features an abundance of great extra features which is always good. We get a good match between R-Truth and King Barrett, which shows that both work well in the ring and they both just need a little something to get them to the next level: It's called a Push.

Promos from John Cena, New Day and PCB are great as are the other matches from Raw and Smackdown. This includes Prime Time Players and Lucha Dragons against New Day and Bo Dallas which is a fantastic tag match as is the tag match between Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose against Seth Rollins and Kane. It is a shame they didn't include more of the build between Wyatt and Reigns or some more from the Lesnar/Rollins build.

WWE Battleground 2015 is a good PPV, just not a fantastic 'must see' event. It felt (as I say) like a promotional piece for the next PPV. This is not necessarily a bad thing. We got a great tag and a surprisingly watchable Divas match and a great main event, if they could just work more on the execution this may have been a battleground I would have wanted to take part of more.
