Review for Danger Mouse Merry Christmouse
Danger Mouse is an update of the 1980s classic cartoon and unlike most updates, this one stays pretty much faithful to the original. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed watching these shows almost as much as I remember enjoying the original show when I was younger.
The show features a British Spy, the eye patch wearing Danger Mouse, who is aided by his trusty sidekick Penfold in his missions, usually to thwart the evil plans of the dastardly Baron Greenback.
This DVD comes with seven eleven minute episodes including the longer length Snowman Cometh which is the most perfect new Christmas adventure that I think I may add to my ‘Must Watch at Christmas’ picks. In this episode the evil, though slightly useless evil villain Snowman steals Santa’s hat. Danger Mouse must use Santa’s army of elves to save the day and save Christmas.
The other six episodes are all fabulous with some great humour that kids and adults will appreciate. These include the classic evil version of Danger Mouse ‘Sinistermouse’ that joins forces with the always evil Greenback to take down Danger Mouse. The duo also has to help care from Greenback when one of his schemes goes wrong and he erases his memory.
What I loved about this show, which many younger children may not get, was just how many famous people provided their voices to characters. These include Alexander Armstrong who is perfect as Danger Mouse, Kevin Eldon as Penfold and Stephen Fry as Colonel K. Fans of Come Dine With Me will recognise its narrator Dave Lamb who narrates the story here too. There are also wonderful cameos such as Brian Blessed perfect as Father Christmas and The IT Crowd’s Richard Ayoade is always great appearing here as the inept Snowman.
Danger Mouse Merry Christmouse is the perfect gift for all younger kids who love funny action shows, or to big kids to want to remember what it was like to have such a great superhero. It is very rare that a reboot/remake will be as good as the original, and even though I adore the original Cosgrove show with David Jason, this is just as good. This will definitely be a show I will be catching up on.
