Review of People That Time Forgot, The
Introduction
Another fabulous slice of Edgar Rice Burroughs tosh made in the 1970s for American International at Britain`s Pinewood Studios. This one stars the Duke`s eldest Patrick Wayne in search of his old chum Doug McClure (who you`ll remember from such films as "The Land That Time Forgot").
Going along for the ride are Thorley Walters (doing his potty professor turn) and Shane Rimmer (sounding as ever like Scott Tracy). Superman II baddy-to-be Sarah Douglas provides the glamour alongside Dana Gillespie (playing the role usually reserved for Caroline Munro). Rentabaldie Milton Reid (in green makeup and matching contact lenses) provides the usual exotic baddy. He is aided and abetted by Flambards` John Hallam in samurai get-up. In the sacrifice scene, you may notice the fine, strapping form of Dave "Darth Vader" Prowse as the executioner. The nasty little piece of work assisting him is Kiran Shah, who did the same job for the executioner in "Baron Munchhausen" and has recently been Frodo`s scale double in "Lord Of The Rings".
If you`re wondering what happened to Susan Penhaligon after "Land That Time Forgot", Milty and his mates sacrificed her to the volcano so she wouldn`t have to appear in this sequel.
Video
Presented in the original 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, this film with its dodgy effects and dodgier scenery has come out quite well. Colours are nicely vivid and the picture isn`t too bad for grain and wear.
Audio
Nothing to write home about as usual. Dolby 2.0 Mono.
Features
There`s a theatrical trailer and subtitles but that`s about it. You don`t want to be paying double figures if you can help it.
Conclusion
A nice potty bit of fun from the rubber monsters brigade.
