Review of Bushisms
Introduction
Ah, the wisdom of Dubya, or George Wilson Bush to his myriad of friends and admirers (well, perhaps not) across the state of Texas and the rest of the world. Say what you like about his presidency so far (and I`m guessing most of that won`t be brimming with good things to say about him), but he has provided us with some excellent comedy.
His inability to string sentences together, know where things are in the world and his ability to bumble from one gaffe to another has been gold dust to comedians all over the world. From Bill Bailey`s "Drum and Bush" song, to the constant lampooning of the Dead Ringers team "My fellow Umbrella stands, we must protect the polystyrene people". "God bless Anneka Rice".
And now you can buy a DVD featuring some of his greatest clasics, culled from various US TV and radio broadcasts, as well as some textual classics too. Along with these classic clips are some commentary on Bush and his great knowledge of the world and politics, as well as sketches featuring the George W Bush singers.
Video
A standard 4:3 NTSC transfer. Most of this material was taken from US TV broadcasts, and so reflects its source. There are also various animated inserts and other little bits and pieces. A perfectly acceptable presentation of the material.
Audio
Just a DD2.0 soundtrack. Functional, comfortable, nothing to write home about. Everything that you need to hear can be heard, and that`s about all there is to it.
Features
Nowt.
Conclusion
An interesting idea for a DVD, and it`s certainly funny to watch some of George`s greatest gaffes again. But my main concern is the replay value of this DVD. I enjoyed laughing at George, but I don`t really see myself wanting to watch it over and over again . That`s where the problem lies here. It`s a fun hour, and something that you`d catch on TV and laugh at, but not something that you`d really go mad for time and time again.
The DVD itself is a reasonable effort, particularly given its limited appeal, although my DVD-R review copy did rather struggle at times.
Something to borrow from a friend for a quick laugh, but not a keeper really. Just try not to concentrate too hard on the fact that this man is the "leader of the free world" and has his finger on that button.
Your Opinions and Comments
And I was right. In 5 years, I've never watched this again. And I don't want to go back and watch it either.
