    Review of Easy

    6 / 10

    Introduction

Jamie Harris is a modern girl who has had a string of lovers. By lovers I mean `one-night stands`. Phone messages of rejection play over the credits as one after the other men call and give her the brush-off. She has reached a turning point in her life when she realises that sex with strangers is not the best way forward. This endless search for the fulfilment of her fairy-tale happy ending is a summation of the old joke" you`ve got to kiss a lot of frogs".

She meets John. He`s her old Professor who she had a mad crush on. Taking him home from a poetry reading she is determined to resist his charms. This lasts for about five minutes and she is annoyed with herself especially as she thinks he won`t call. Against expectations they do enter into a relationship but it founders when he is torn between her and his ex-wife.

Following a life-changing encounter Jamie decides to enter a 90-day period of celibacy and finds a new challenge in meeting and not bedding new men in her life. Meanwhile everybody else`s relationships continue around in her in the confusing way that modern life requires.

Jamie Harris is played by Marguerite Moreau who appeared as Redd Carlson in The O. C and recently in the second series of "Lost". Her co-star, John, is played by current "Lost" hottie Naveen Andrews whose slow-burn career film credits include "The English Patient" and "Bride and Prejudice". I suspect that including him more prominently on the DVD cover would greatly increase sales. Also appearing as John`s rival is Brian O` Byrne who was in "Million Dollar Baby" as Father Horvak. D.B Woodside appears as Jamie`s close friend.(24 Day 3, Buffy as Principal Wood)

    Video

There are no problems with the picture. Locations and use of colour are occasionally inspired and sometimes mundane.

    Audio

There`s a pleasant enough soundtrack which has proved to be forgettable but not as offensive as most of the others I`ve reviewed lately.

    Features

Not much in the way of extras but then this isn`t some auteur masterpiece and a `how to` guide to celibacy probably won`t get many takers.
    Deleted scenes

These are mostly where scenes have been shortened.

    Film background

Short on-screen details about the film.

    Star bios

Who, what when, where and what with.

    Conclusion

This is not a preachy film about celibacy. It is more about the choices that we as adults make about where to take a relationship and the joys, pleasure and pain of finding someone who might just turn out to be " the one". The rather clunky plot device part way through, which leads out heroine to revaluate her approach to sex as conversation, lets the rest of the film down though. Don`t be mislead by the box blurb, it is described as a "very funny comedy". I can`t remember too many laugh out loud moments but found the whole thing was worth watching. The leads are very easy on the eye and the story of Jamie`s journey has renance for most of us over a certain age who played on that muddy field many years ago.

Overall it is worth a watch, probably more for the ladies than the gentlemen though there is some nudity; it`s amazing what a 15 year-old is allowed to view these days. "Easy" is more soppy romantic comedy that stylish modern film. It`s not as clever as it thinks it is but has its moments.
