Review for WWE Fastlane 2015
Fastlane replaces Elimination Chamber and I don't mind this, as at least when they do have one of those matches, it may actually mean something: It always felt that it fit better with Survivor Series anyway. After last year's underwhelming journey to Wrestlemania, I expected WWE would have taken note. I understand that they want to strap a rocket to Roman Reigns, but when will they learn that if you shove someone down our throats, we will only choke on them?
This event featured seven matches and it is a bit of a strange PPV. It's not bad, it's just not very memorable. Unlike most PPVs before Wrestlemania where you can now see the pieces in place, this one still left me wondering what was going on.
The Authority Team of Kane, Big Show and Seth Rollins against Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan and Ryback was fine, but nothing special and I think it needed more of a reason for me to care about the match and its outcome for it to work. Goldust against Stardust was again just a match. I expected it to have a stipulation that would make the whole storyline make sense, but sadly that's not the case. The Intercontinental Match between Bad News Barrett and Dean Ambrose is also the same and I just don't know how they could take two great characters and make them put on such a boring display.
Tyson Kidd and Cesaro against The Usos for the WWE Tag Titles was all kinds of awesome. This was the kind of tag team wrestling I could watch all day, every day. Both teams had great offence in and despite the fact Cesaro and Kidd are just two people cobbled together, it really works. I do wish they were given more time though.
Nikki Bella against Paige for the Divas Championship was just a waste. There is nothing else I can say and only so many times I can watch these three look stunning for their entrance and poses and then just sucking the life out of the ring. Maybe if they were given more time to do something it would mean a lot more, but you can't make me care in less than six minutes.
John Cena against Rusev for thr US Title was boring as I expected. It is odd that WWE did not play off the fact that Cena did not give up, declaring the match was won by submission. Seeing as 'Never Give Up' is his slogan I thought Cena would have ran with this. The match wasn't as bad as some Rusev matches, but certainly not a great match.
Match of the night was clearly the main event of Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns for the title shot at Wrestlemania. The only problem with this match is that Roman Reigns was facing Daniel Bryan. Bryan is quite clearly the most popular and yet WWE seem determined to give Reigns the chance that no one wants. The match itself is great, though I think if they wanted to make it better it should have been a two out of three falls or a iron-man-style match to really show how great they both are. As it is, the match ended as I expected and the reason why most people have been disappointed with the PPV is this ending.
If I am honest the match is pretty good and Reigns and Bryan show some great athleticism in the ring. Both prove why they should be in the main event at Wrestlemania and by the end you can at least say that the winner deserved the shot.
Fastlane was not a bad PPV, but it is certainly not one that you will watch repeatedly. There is much to watch on the Blu-ray and even the extra matches from Raw/Smackdown make it worthwhile. The PPV itself has some highlights, but it simply did not give me the excitement that others have. Not so much a PPV in the Fastlane as one in the Bus Lane.
