All the Boys Love Mandy Lane

    4 / 10

    Introduction

Mandy Lane (Amber Heard) is one of the most popular girls at high school because of her looks. She is the girl that all the boys want but has proved impervious to their advances. Red (Aaron Himelstein) has organised a party at his ranch and everyone wants her there.

At the ranch, they go swimming, play truth or dare, drink and begin disappearing one by one at the hands of a killer.

    Video

Far too murky, even accounting for the nighttime setting.

    Audio

Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2.0 Stereo - I went for the 5.1 and found it to be perfectly acceptable.

    Extra Features

A trailer and a 28-minute interview with Amber Heard, who is very happy with the film and the way her life turned out after dropping out of high school.

    Conclusion

Director Jonathan Levine starts the film with Mandy walking down the school corridor and a series of subjective POV shots of her chest and backside show what the boys love about Mandy Lane, but then almost immediately invalidates his point with a Baywatch-esque slow motion shot of Mandy on the running track.

Once the killings begin, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane's pedestrian pace begins to grate and I was wishing for a Freddy/Jason type murderer, rather than the limp character offing the generally unlikeable teens.

Slasher movies need to be either very clever or very gruesome to stand up in a post-Scream world - and this slow formulaic offering is neither one nor the other.

    Your Opinions and Comments

    Wow - short review! ;)

I think you're being way too harsh on this film. For one, it had some pretty damn nice cinematography, as well as having a nice little twist in the tale too.

Plus, it wasn't a remake, which is always a bonus.
