Review of Charlotte Church In the Holy Land
Introduction
Charlotte Church is a Welsh teenager who sings - the difference is that she sings classical soprano rather that the usual pop fare you expect from singing teenagers.
This is the DVD release of an album Sony paid millions for and it seems to have paid off, Charlotte Church is fast becoming their most bankable asset, above even the likes of Michael Jackson himself.
This dvd is set as a kind of story, with Charlotte guiding us through the Holy Land and the varions towns and locations from the Bible, interspaced with her singing various well known Christmassy songs
Video
Video quality is good, superior to VHS in all aspects. There are no signs that corners were cut in production. The colours and sights of the towns she visits come across well, as does the desert.
The darker, more contrasty abbey where she sings is also transferred very well.
Audio
Dolby Digital is used throughout the disc and the music comes across very clearly indeed, Charlotte`s voice is exceptionally clear and strong (especially for someone only 13 years old).
The Dormition Abbey where she performs seems to suit her voice and the accompanying music never drowns out and always compliments her voice.
Features
Nothing extra really, you can access the tracks individually and there`s a menu!
Conclusion
If you treat this as a cd with video included, then you`ll be happy with it. It`s better that a VHS video by a long way but you`d have to be a huge fan to justify the expense over a cd of the same music.
We left it running quietly in the lounge during Christmas dinner and it was rather nice as background music to the occasion.
My mum loved it.
