The Inbetweeners Series 2

The Inbetweeners Season 2

Even though I am only 28, watching this show made me feel so very, very old.

The Inbetweeners is a comedy show revolving around four boys Will (Simon Bird), Simon (Joe Thomas), Jay (James Buckley) and Neil (Blake Harrison). Narrated by Will, this could almost be looked at as a Peep Show for kids (only without the point of view gimmick).Over the six episodes, the four go through numerous mishaps, which make what I did when I was in sixth form seem very, very tame. These include doing voluntary work in an old people's home to gain a Duke of Edinburgh award in which Jay gives someone the worst greeting since There's Something About Mary. With each episode the antics get worse and worse and I shudder to think what these boys will get up in the next season.

Though I enjoyed the series, and did find myself laughing a lot, there were times when this was beaten by the number of times I cringed watching. The character of Jay is at times so disgusting with his sexual innuendos, that rather than becoming numb to it (which I presume was the idea), I just began dreading every single line he had. For their ages, the acting is perfect though none are even close to the ages they are portraying, with Simon Bird being only three years younger than me!

The special features have been piled on to this disk and though I appreciate the sheer amount on offer, the menu used (a pastiche of a school photo) is difficult to navigate and so I'm not even sure if I saw most of it. However, the behind the scenes featurettes and outtake reels are great fun to watch. the odd thing is that the commentaries which you will only know about if you go to the episode selection screen, these are on Episodes 1, 3 and 6, so I assume the creators needed a break between each. These are still fun and full of funny stories about the creation of the particular episodes.

The Inbetweeners is a good comedy show, however because of the wealth of Channel 4 shows recently (most notably The IT Crowd and Peep Show) it may be missed in the shuffle. However, this DVD is a great set for those who loved the show and those who have missed it will be in for a treat… just be prepared to laugh and then cringe… a lot!
