    Sirens

In 1994 you couldn't move for Hugh Grant and his charm as Four Weddings and a Funeral was sweeping the world and Sirens is him at his foppish, whimsical and charming best. It is a simple romantic comedy of an English vicar, Tony (Grant) and his wife, Estella (Tara Fitzgerald) have travelled to Australia to help convince an artist, Norman Lindsay (Sam Neill) to withdraw one of his paintings from a forthcoming exhibition due to its seemingly blasphemous content. The film follows Tony's interaction with Lindsay and also Estella's interaction with Lindsay's models (Kate Fischer, Portia de Rossi and Elle Macpherson).

Now, there is your answer to why any man would want to watch this film. Two simple words: Elle Macpherson. This was 'The Body' at her best and throughout this movie, director John Duigan uses it to its best throughout the film. It's just a shame that her acting (though competent) isn't as amazing as her body, as she clearly steals the film in any scene she appears in. The film, aided by Geoff Burton's wondrous cinematography looks beautiful and acts as a perfect advert for Australia. However, there is a general feeling that nothing really happens in this film and the plot is seemingly lost in a mix of nude scenes, Australian and English clichés and a few intertwining love stories.

Sirens is a magical little film, but not one that will turn your world upside down. It's highly unlikely that you will watch it more than a few times and won't make it in anyone's top ten. However, it is a well made film that deserves to be watched… and not just for Elle Macpherson.
