Review for NBA Greatest Rivalries and Upsets Volume 1
Like many sports, Basketball thrives on the rivalries that are built up. Just like the football world anticipates Chelsea vs. Manchester United or England vs. Germany, so do NBA fans anticipate certain match ups. This DVD explores some of those rivalries and also the upsets that have occurred throughout.
I should first point out, this isn't rivalries 'of all time', and really should have specified that it really only goes as far back as the early 90s and maybe should have been called 'NBA's Greatest Rivalries and Upsets of the last twenty years' Though that doesn't have quite the same ring to it. The decision to include rivalries and upsets is also odd, as I'm sure you could have filled a full disk with both rather than ration it out over less than an hour and a half.
Rivalries looked at includes the legendary LA Lakers and the Sacramento Kings and the Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat from the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons. These are ok in general, but not enough time is spent on individual feuds and as I say if the DVD's focus was solely on rivalries we could have got a lot more indepth analysis of this. Upsets include the Laker's defeat in 2004 and the Golden State Warriors winning against the Dallas Mavericks in 2007. Both again are rushed through and with more time this could have been so much better. However, there is some great footage throughout this disk both on and off the court. And any time you can watch LeBron James play makes it a good disk in my book.
If NBA Greatest Rivalries and Upsets Volume One had been a two disk set with a disk devoted to each, it would have been a great disk to own. As it is, the disk is enjoyable, but not the must-have item it could have been.
