Nicole Brown Simpson - Her Final Hours

**NOTE** This is a Region 0 NTSC release.

A new series of documentaries has been released as part of a Canadian production, aiming according to the PR blurb to unlock the hidden secrets, psychological flaws and trigger events that led to the death of 8 global icons.

Now from my memory, Nicole Brown Simpson only become an icon of sorts after her death, not before. Nicole was married to ex-American footballer and budding actor OJ Simpson, and the first of two victims in what was dubbed The Trial of the Century back in the mid 90's.

This hour long documentary traces both the final hours of Nicole's life and the backdrop of her relationship with OJ Simpson, seemingly one of acute domestic violence. Nicole had already divorced Simpson by now and trying to get her life together, with her two children with Simpson at the heart of her life. It appears though that the obsessive OJ Simpson just could not allow her to fly free from his grasp.

The final hours of her life appear to have been a tragic misconception of events by OJ Simpson, whereby the joint murder victim Ron Goldman was simply a waiter at the last restaurant where Nicole enjoyed a family celebration meal after seeing her daughter at a school dance recital. Upon leaving this restaurant, Nicole's mother accidentally lost her glasses whilst getting into her car and asked Nicole if she could retrieve them. Goldman, who was also a platonic friend of Nicole, confirmed that they had been handed in and agreed to deliver them to Nicole's home that night.

Prior to this Nicole had blanked her ex-husband at the school dance recital and then couldn't reach his new girlfriend on the phone. It's a pretty good call to suggest that OJ Simpson had decided to visit Nicole to confront her about blanking him earlier and finding Nicole and Goldman together, completely misconstrued how things looked.

Now I have to admit that I always thought that Goldman and Nicole were lovers but this documentary has cleared that up for me as well as filling in a lot of the past history of Nicole and Simpson's marriage. I hadn't realised what a history they had had or that there was so much domestic violence within the relationship. Testimony from friends and Nicole's old psychologist backs up events as seen by themselves.

This series has been seen on TV already on channels such as Discovery and FX, is narrated by Danny Wallace (although in Canada it's actually narrated by Dave McRae) and is a mix of acted reconstruction (with no dialogue) and old photographs and footage.

Quite interesting but limited appeal at only an hour…
