Review for WWE Night of Champions 2010
That being said the once wonderful gimmick that Night of Champions had, being that every match was a title match has gone by the wayside. It is true that when the PPV concept debuted there were more titles to fight over and only one match is not based on a title, but they could have at least made it for a Title Shot or something, to make it seem in the same vein. However, this is actually a pretty solid PPV and one that (if not spoilt) is one of the better ones I have seen.
WWE Intercontinental ChampionshipDolph Ziggler vs. Kofi KingstonA great match from the two. Not exactly the kind of match you would remember, but certainly an enjoyable one.
The Big Show vs. CM PunkSimply too short. (What you mean like this overview? Yes, it's that short!)
WWE United States ChampionshipThe Miz vs. Daniel BryanOne of my matches of the year. Possibly one of the best matches I have seen from the WWE (in terms of just technical wrestling) in a very long time. We all knew that Daniel Bryan was this good and thankfully he was allowed to put on a performance to prove it.
Divas and Women's Unification Lumberjill MatchMelina vs. Team Lay-CoolAwful! Even with all the eye candy surrounding the ring and Melina still looking pretty good, they could not cover up the fact this match was awful. Such a shame considering the whole 'unification' that it became so forgetable.
World Heavyweight ChampionshipNo Holds BarredKane vs. UndertakerA very surprising match. I honestly thought this would be a squash, but thankfully it isn't. It was actually a pretty good match and one that improved the standing of both Kane and Undertaker and that is what a great match should do.
WWE Tag Team ChampionshipTag Team TurmoilHart Dynasty vs. Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre vs. The Usos vs. Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov vs. Evan Bourne & Mark HenryIf this is the future of tag team wrestling, they may aswell shut up shop. I was shocked and horrified by this match. As someone who loves tag team wrestling, watching this match was just torture. Someone really needs to look at the division and think about creating tag teams rather than just random people clubbed together.
WWE ChampionshipSix Pack ChallengeSheamus vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Edge vs. Chris Jericho vs. Wade BarrettAt first I thought this would be overbooked to oblivion. But it was actually a pretty good match. The six men gelled well together and that was not surprising as there were no real sore thumbs within the six (all apart from Barrett having been world champions before) and at various points throughout the match I thought that any of them could of won. This was a great match and a great way to end the PPV.
WWE Night of Champions 2010 was a mixbag of a PPV. If you ignore the Diva and Tagteam match and the too short (but still good) Punk/Big Show match, then what is on offer is actually a pretty solid card. All of the other matches are excellent, with the two World Championship and the US Championship being some of the best wrestling and action I have seen in a long time. If the PPV's aim was to show the best of their champions, then it certainly succeeded.
