Review for WWE Survivor Series 2010
Survivor Series is WWE's oldest PPV after Wrestlemania and also one of the best concepts after Royal Rumble obviously. The idea is that teams of five compete against each other in an elimination tag match until one side has been completely eliminated. Or it would be if they actually remembered that. No, sadly this is just like every other PPV with the exception of one 'Classic' Survivor Series. It's a shame because with the Nexus you would have thought they were tailor made for that type of a match. That being said this was a pretty solid PPV with some great feuds going into it.
US Championship
Daniel Bryan vs. Ted Dibiase
A great match to start the show. Great look at Daniel Bryan's technical ability and Dibiase showed some great skills. Plus watching Maryse is always a plus in my book.
Sheamus vs. John Morrison
Not the best match by either of them. A good showing by Morrison, but Sheamus was a little disappointing throughout.
Intercontinental Championship
Kaval vs. Dolph Ziggler
Poor Kaval. I had forgotten he was even in WWE. Winner of NXt, Kaval is and was a great wrestler. This wasn't a great match by either and even the addition of Vicky didn't make this a match that I cared much about. It is sad that we never got to see Kaval against CM Punk or Daniel Bryan before he left though.
Survivor Series Match
Alberto Del Rio, Jack Swagger, Dashing Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre and Tyler Reks vs. Big Show, Chris Masters, Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio and MVP
As I said, I love traditional survivor series matches and the reason is it usually involves a team united within a feud. This was perfect when there were factions such as Heenan's Family, Jimmy Hart's or those allied with DX or Hulk Hogan. This match was based around a feud between Mysterio and Del Rio and so everyone else in the match is kind of secondary. That being said it is a great example of an elimination tag match and though it could have been better it is still full of some great moments.
WWE Divas Championship
LayCool vs. Natalya
How often do I have to say that watching the Divas is painful? Seriously. I may as well just cut and paste my comments from last time. Natalya does put on a good performance and watching her kick the tar out of either member of LayCool is great. However, this is still not a match I would watch more than once.
World Heavyweight Championship
Kane vs. Edge
Who would have thought that Kane could be this good? I mean seriously. He was always on the cusp of the main event, but never there and now here he is two feet planted firmly. This match was pretty good with both guys bringing the best out of the other. The ending was a little ridiculous, but I suppose it made sense and the aftermath was still pretty good.
WWE Tag Team Championship
Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel vs. Santi/Koz
I just don't know what to say. It's not exactly Volkoff and Sheik, but I kinda like Santino and Kozlov as a team, but I don't know why. This match? It wasn't great. Not by any stretch of the imagination, but I've seen a lot worse. I've seen a lot better too.
WWE Championship
Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett (with John Cena as Referee)
I remember when Big Bossman was referee for a match and they made a whole storyline about him learning how to be a referee. Who would have thought that anyone could just do it? But then again all they need to do is count to three and when they are hit be unconscious for longer than normal. Simple! This was actually a pretty good match as you could just see how much Cena was hurting being under the thumb of Nexus's Wade Barrett. Barrett again is amazing for such a young competitor and works so well against Orton. A great match and great way to end the PPV.
Survivor Series 2010 is not the best Survivor Series I have ever seen (That will always be 1990's) but it was still pretty good. It's a shame that WWE doesn't embrace the team concept more as it would be a nice break away from the typical build to a PPV that can be a little dull and samey at times. This was a few matches aside a great PPV all round though.
