Review for Ultimate Royce Gracie

UFC Ultimate Royce Gracie is a DVD that all UFC fans MUST OWN. If you claim to be a fan of UFC you need to buy this DVD and see the best of the best of the best. There is no other way of describing Royce Gracie. He is (to quote wrestler Bret Hart) 'The Best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.' This is a guy who more or less revolutionised the sport of MMA and became one of the most influential fighters in UFC history.

The set includes six hours of every single Gracie fight in UFC. These include encounters with Ken Shamrock, Kimo Leopoldo and Kazushi Sakuraba. Before anyone starts saying 'oh but what about'. The thing that people need to remember was that when UFC started each event was a tournament style event. That means that in one night you would have to face multiple opponents. Sure Brock Lesnar or BJ Penn may be great for one fight, but this is a man who tore his way through three people in one night to become UFC Tournament Champion. Not only that, but did it three times, drawing the fourth one with fellow Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock.

The DVD is filled with interviews, behind the scenes footage and most importantly fights. It is difficult to describe how good Gracie was in UFC without actually viewing it. He was a lot smaller than most of his opponents and so utilized Brazilian jiu-jitsu to dominate (never more an appropriate word can be found) his opponents. This was also unique as it established that UFC was not just for boxers, wrestlers etc, but could be viewed as an outlet for genuine martial arts in what would later be described as MMA or mixed martial arts.

UFC Ultimate: Royce Gracie is an essential DVD. Much like a Michael Jordan set for Basketball fans or a Muhammad Ali set for Boxing fans, if you are a fan of UFC or even just MMA in general, then this is the set that you must own.
