Review for Alex Zane presents The Best of Rude Tube
The Best of RudeTube covers the best moments from Alex Zane's look at the wild and wacky world of Youtube and the Internet. It seems if you have a skill (no matter how bizarre) or are willing to do the stupidest of things then you can become an Internet Legend.
The DVD is divided into five sections Pranks and Stunts including someone getting a wedgie from a car, a prank involving lots of energy drinks and an angry grampa, Skills including an awesome Transformer and a guy who can play the piano with juggling balls, Animals involving a wonderful video of a cat trying to work a printer, Fails which as you can imagine are people failing including a girl falling over herself for blueberries and Celebs which isn't really celebs more the ones who have become phenomenons including Justin Beaver Double Dream Hands and a vidually amazing soda/mentos fountain which was just wonderful.
Those who have seen the TV show will know the format, a collection of clips with Alex Zane making comments throughout. It is essentially just like You've Been Framed only with less skateboarding dogs and people falling at weddings. At over two hours I found this to be a little excessive, even Zane comments on this in the beginning. By including so much it's hard to view any as 'The Best' and maybe some kind of Countdown or reasoning behind why they are here would make sense.
The clips are generally good, but the thing that is annoying is the fact that they can not be selected individually only as a whole section which is a shame. To be honest when I got this DVD I was expecting more of the stars that made Youtube what it is: Jedi Kid, Sneezing Panda, 'Leave Britney Alone' guy and of course 'Charlie bit me'. Sadly, none of these appear.
Extras include an explanation of QR codes which allows you to scan the barcode on certain clips which takes you directly to the full original clip on Youtube. This is a nice idea, but does make you wonder what the point of the DVD is then. Two picture galleries are a little pointless and are video montages rather than interactive and so if you did want to look closer at certain Youtube Legends you would simply have to wait for them to appear.
Also included is a seven minute section dedicated to cats, this is fine, though not sure why this wasn't just added to the main feature. Also included is a crew commentary, which is basically just them commenting on the clips again and doesn't really add anything.
The Best of RudeTube is a nice idea, I just feel that with some tweaking (ability to select individual clips) and with some of the more famous clips it would have been a perfect set. However, it does have a wealth of funny clips here and certainly if you are the type of person who goes through Youtube trying to find hilarious fails and videos, this might save you some time.
