Review for WWE Summerslam 2012
Summerslam is the biggest WWE show of the summer and traditionally their second biggest show of the year. I would argue that it is the Royal Rumble, but the event is certainly one that is usually packed with great matches and a main event that everyone wanted to see. This year was no exception.
The big match of this event was of course Triple H vs Brock Lesnar. It seemed that following his defeat by John Cena, Lesnar would simply sit out the rest of his contract and not wrestle again. However, the only person who could force Lesnar to wrestle, the COO, is also the person that Lesnar wanted to fight and the match that they had is possibly one of the best of 2012 and certainly just as good as his previous match against Cena. It proved that his match against Cena was not a fluke and even if he didn't want to come back full time a Lesnar match every few months was still an amazing thing to see.
The card features only seven matches, but by doing this it meant that most of the matches were given enough time for what was happening to actually mean something. One of the matches that everyone should go and see, even though it is not a main event or even close is the match between Dolph Ziggler and Chris Jericho. I'm not a fan of Ziggler, but Jericho was able to pull an amazing match out of him and I do hope that this is an ongoing thing for (as he is a Money in the Bank holder) a potential future world champion. This is also Jericho's last PPV match for the time being and a fitting send-off.
The two title matches were fine with Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio had an ok match, nothing special, however the triple threat between CM Punk, John Cena and Big Show was great and though it felt like every triple threat I have ever seen, it was still a great match from all involved.
After these the other matches are good, but none of them really stand out as great. Daniel Bryan vs Kane was fine, The Miz vs Rey Mysterio was a good pairing, though I've seen better matches between them. The tag match between Kofi Kingston and R-Truth vs The Prime Time Players was a fine tag match, just nothing special.
The event itself was a good rounded set of matches, none of them were horrible (no Divas match too, which helps). However, one thing I did notice as I was watching was that it just felt like another episode of Raw. It was the same skits and angles and behind the scenes 'WWE in...' type things that you see on every Raw or Smackdown. Though the main event and the two title matches, coupled with the amazing Ziggler/Jericho match was enough to prove how good the WWE can be at times. This is certainly a summer party that is worth paying the price for.
