Review for WWE Night of Champions 2012
The concept of the Night of Champions PPV used to be that every belt was defended. This meant that if you held something as lowly as (at the time) the Cruiserweight Belt, you'd finally get on a PPV. This was phased out over time, but thankfully it is back.
It is true that the PPV still features non-title matches, which I always feel should be Number One Contender matches at least, but it is nice to see all the belts and the champions mean something... even if only for one night.
I won't go into the usual tirade about how awful the Divas match, instead I will just say that they had one and it wasn't as bad as they usually are between Layla and Eve. Randy Orton against Dolph Ziggler was fine, in general, but certainly not how you would want to build up your Money in the Bank winner? The awesome Tag Title match between Team Hell No (Kane and Daniel Bryan) against R-Truth and Kofi Kingston was a good match, but should have been given more time. This would probably be the same for US Title between Antonio Cesaro and Zack Ryder, but the match was worth it just to look at the gorgeous Aksana.
One of the best matches (and usually so) was the Intercontinental match between The Miz, Rey Mysterio, Sin Cara and Cody Rhodes. This match was (to quote The Miz) AWESOME! It was full of action and though it would have been better as an elimination style match it certainly had enough thrills and spills throughout.
Of the two title matches, both had their good and bad points. Sheamus against Alberto Del Rio was fine, but it's Del Rio and I hate watching Del Rio. It was nice to see Sheamus destroy him though. Punk against Cena should have been great and really had the makings of being almost as good as their Money in the Bank match from the year before. Instead, the ending crippled it and once you have witnessed it I'm not sure whether you would enjoy reliving it. This is sad, as it is one of the best matches I have seen in a while, but the finish just left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Night of Champions 2012 is a mixbag of matches. Some could argue that it shows why some of the titles (US and Divas) are often left off the PPV. This should have been the stage to show just why they had those belts and why we should care. Sadly, it is difficult for them to do that in seven minutes. However, if you want to witness one of the best IC title matches in a while this is certainly the place to come.
