Review for Scavengers
Introduction
“Since when has death ever looked this good...”
It was a time of war and heroes.
In a galaxy far, far away.
Ok, it wasn’t, but, “in a forgotten corner of the universe, a battle is raging that that threatens our very existence.”
Apparently, our future lies in the hands of Scavengers, who strip down wrecked space ships. The crew of the Starship Revelator survive by keeping out of trouble, until they stumble across the mechanics of ultimate destruction. A rival ship has it in their sights, and they will stop at nothing to master a power that could destroy the universe. The fight for the future is on…
Video + Audio
“Your hate for him runs seductively deep...”
Everything looks and sounds ok from a technical point of view, and there’s some good rumbling bass in the opening scenes. But then we get to some rather cheap looking CGI that sometimes even makes Blake’s 7 look cutting edge, and then we spot some cheap gas mask wearing TIE fighter pilots that pass for enemies. I’ve seen some more realistic footage in cut scenes in computer games. But if the rest of the film is ok, then you can let that pass. As you might be able to tell from the few lines sprinkled throughout this review, the dialogue isn’t particularly sparkling either...
Extra Features
Thankfully nothing. I would have wanted them to spend more money on the main feature rather than making any extras...
Conclusion
“There isn’t a man I can’t kill with the promise of a simple kiss...”
This was a truly terrible film. From an over-the-top villain who comes across like a poor man’s Danny Dyer, to a plot that’s a mess and a MacGuffin that might just destroy all of reality or might just turn out to be the dampest of squibs that people just talk utter gibberish about. Characters who can just regenerate from a clone, a bad-ass villainess who can slaughter an entire bar full of goons (all off-camera) and then a weird shower scene.
Another 90 minutes of my life that I won’t get back, no matter how much I scavenge for it. If only I could find that weapon that could destroy the universe… Fans of sci-fi-schlock might just love it!
