Review of South Park Volume 13
Introduction
More madcap antics from South Park as the fourth season continues on DVD with episodes 6 to 9. Unlike the earlier episodes the series concentrates largely on its established characters for this disc. Obviously they haven`t run out of ideas yet, and were just resting the regulars until a bit later in the season.
Video
As with volume 12 you`ll find a good full frame transfer with no problems of note. The fourth season seems to have improved slightly over the earlier seasons, but it`s not something that jumps out and grabs you, just some subtle improvements.
Audio
A DD2.0 stereo soundtrack which is fine for the job it has to do, and does that job well. As with volume 12, the French audio track has vanished, so no dodgy translations to work out this time round. Not something to lose sleep over though is it?
Features
None, nada, nil.
Conclusion
Season 4 is in full swing with the boys on top form and some new targets in their sights.
"Cartman Joins NAMBLA" follows the story of Eric as he looks for men who want to be good friends with 8 year old boys. Having matured faster than his 8 year old friends he scours internet chat rooms looking for men, and finds hundreds who want to meet him. All parties are delighted with this arrangement and Cartman joins NAMBLA, the North American Man Boy Love Association.
In "Cherokee Hair Tampons" we learn that Kyle is on his deathbed, and the only thing that will save his life is a kidney transplant. But the local new age medicine shop has other ideas and offer up all manner of bizarre pills and potions to try and cure him. The aforementioned feminine hygiene products are also proving popular with the people of South Park.
"Chef Goes Nanners" concentrates on Chef`s fight to change the South Park flag which is outdated and racist. The good people of South Park fear change, the Klu Klux Klan become involved, and Wendy and Cartman find love amongst the books in the library. Will everyone come to their senses in time?
"Something You Can Do With Your Finger" is an attack on boy bands everywhere. In Cartman`s ongoing quest to make 10 million dollars he dreams of success in a boy band, and starts to make his dream come true. Will they become the next "Take That" or the next "Let Loose"?
Another great set of episodes from the fourth season, and highly recommended as usual for fans. If you can stretch to it you should buy the fourth season box set, as it can work out at up to half the price of buying each disc individually!
