Review of Sweep: Superdog
Introduction
Obviously Sweep has a much better agent than Soo or Sooty. Along with Soo, he was the sidekick to Sooty, in The Sooty Show for many years. But he is the first to get a DVD to himself, one which features episodes which concentrate mostly on him.
I`ve never been much of a Sooty fan, and it has to be said that there is something slightly disturbing about a mute bear, a squeaking dog and a talking panda.
Video
The episodes vary in age, but are all presented in full frame, and all look reasonably good. There`s nothing really wrong with them, but they just look very dated.
There`s nothing really exciting on show, just some low-budget puppetry and a few "celebrities" making fools of themselves.
Audio
All episodes are presented in their original mono format, replayed over both channels. Sound is clear and audible at all times, and that`s about all there is to say about it!
Features
Nothing at all.
Conclusion
I was never a big fan of The Sooty Show, and I can`t imagine that any fans would want to see a DVD that mainly features Sweep instead of one featuring Sooty.
I`m not quite sure how this release came about, since there are much better shows that deserve a release instead of this one. If you like Sooty and Sweep then there`s enough here to keep you interested (2 hours), but it`s not one I`d recommend even to big nostalgia fans.
Picture and sound are as good as can be expected, but this one is for real nostalgia die-hards only.
