Review for WWE Wrestlemania Backlash 2022
Wrestlemania Backlash is such a bizarre PPV that it makes you wonder whether it would be better later in the year. Having almost multiple rematches from Wrestlemania either tells you that they are regretting some of their decisions or simply have ran out of ideas. It is not unusual for rematches to occur at the PPV after Wrestlemania, but being so blatant about it leaves a sour taste. That being said, of the six matches presented only two failed to provide little or any entertainment.
The second match between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins was fantastic and these two have proven how well they work together. Edge against AJ Styles was a good match, not the amazing match I expected from these two, but I certainly enjoyed it.
Omos against Bobby Lashley was awful and really proof that if they want to make Omos into a huge star he needs to go to NXT for a few months and learn more fundamentals. The match between former friends Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss should have been a TV match and had no right being on a PPV.
The match of the night was the I Quit match between Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown Women's Championship. I actually expected this match to be over in seconds as a call-back to Rousey's UFC days, but this was a great match from them both with an amazing finish.
In the main event we had Roman Reigns and The Usos against Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro. This really did have a shades of The Four Horseman feel which I really enjoyed and I did wish that there had been a 'All Titles on the Line' stipulation to make it more interesting.
There are no extras or Kickoff matches and this is a shame as the PPV is good, not perfect, but could have done with a few extras to make it the must-have item it should have been.
