Review of Doors, The: A Celebration VH1 Storytellers
Introduction
Jim Morrison has passed onto a better place (well a desert if you believe Wayne`s World II) but the rest of the Doors live on. So early in 2001 they got together with a selection of vocalists from a few other groups for a singalong. This is it.
The hour long disc features artists such as Patrick Monahan (from Train), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) and the Cult`s Ian Astbury, all singing well known Doors songs.
Video
Standard 4:3, made-for-tv stuff here, nothing exceptional but no complaints. The cameras move around in typical rock video fashion, there are close ups of ther performers etc etc. You`ve all seen VH-1/MTV etc ;)
Audio
Excellent, the 5.1 soundtrack is well mixed and doesn`t suffer from technology over music as can happen. From Ray`s excellent, evocative keyboard playing to the speed of Robbie`s guitar, the sound is pure Doors.
Features
None, just some very, very good music ;)
Conclusion
You can hear Jim in the back of your head singing along - and he approves. Well probably. It`s obvious they all really enjoyed making this and my main worry - that the guests would try to BE Jim Morrison - was unfounded.
The music is excellent, all the energy you expect from the Doors is there, the guest vocalists are brilliant (my personal favourite being Ian Astbury - he probably gets the closest to Morrison in terms of style)
A Doors must have.
