Synopsis:
George Sluizer, director of the original Dutch thriller of the same name, also helms this updated Hollywood version. Jeff (Kiefer Sutherland) and his girlfriend Diane (Sandra Bullock) are arguing their vacation away on a road trip from Seattle to Mount St. Helens. Whilst stopping at a gas station, Diane goes inside a food store, and never returns. Three years later, Jeff is still putting up posters and appearing on talk shows in his desperate quest to learn of Diane`s fate. Even a budding romance with waitress Rita (Nancy Travis) fails to enable him to move on with his life. Finally, an out-of-the-blue phone call leads him to an eccentric, yet outwardly normal chemistry teacher (Jeff Bridges), who could provide Jeff with the answers he has been looking for.
