Synopsis:
Bette Midler takes the starring role of singer Rose in this rock `n` roll biopic, loosely based on the life of Janis Joplin. The poignant and compelling story follows Rose, an increasingly self-destructive rock-star, during her final tour. Protected from the responsibilities of adult life by her ruthless manager (Alan Bates), Rose pushes away everyone who truly cares for her, and her life slowly and painfully spirals out of control. Overwhelmed by stardom and its excesses, she lives her last days in a sea of sex, drink and drugs. Midler`s Oscar-nominated performance is outstanding, and The Rose provides an excellent showcase for her concert talents as she passionately sings each number with style and panache.
