    Review of Corrs, The: Unplugged

    8 / 10

    Introduction

Just before Christmas 1999, a colleague lent me "The Corrs Unplugged" on CD. The next day as I prepared myself for the trip down to my parents for Christmas and loaded "Unplugged" and 5 other CDs into the autochanger in the car. I`d never really listened to The Corrs before, but during the return journey, the other 5 CDs didn`t get played.

I`ve subsequently purchased all the other Corrs albums and the three currently available DVDs.

This "Unplugged" DVD was the first DVD that I bought and I`ve just watched it yet again in preparation for going to see the band in concert on Monday :)

    Video

Video comes in 16:9 anamorphic widescreen and is of a very high standard throughout the concert. There are no signs of any problems and the quality of the image really adds to the enjoyment of the disc.

Visually, as with many other "Unplugged" sessions, the band are in a small auditorium, backed by an orchestra and concentrate on their music rather than putting on a show.

It goes without saying that this DVD is one of the most visually appealing discs on the market. When Tom Gray reviewed the disc, he discussed the three ladies in the band in detail - I`ll not bother, suffice to say that they`re all absolutely gorgeous as well as extremely talented.

    Audio

Sonically, you have a choice between Dolby Digital 5.0 or linear PCM stereo.

I`ve listened to both, and whilst the linear track is good, the 5.0 mix is the one to go for.

Despite the lack of a dedicated LFE channel, the sound is excellent and beautifully fills the room. If you can bring yourself not to look at the screen, lean back and close you eyes whilst listening to the music - you will be immersed very quickly.

The songs themselves are all good - I particularly enjoy "Forgiven Not Forgotten" and "So Young" - but all the others are very good as well - there`s not a bad song on the disc in my opinion.

    Features

Nothing of note unfortunately - as is the general practice with music videos.

There are subtitles available for the songs, alongside a simple picture gallery.

    Conclusion

Overall, if you like The Corrs, you`ve probably already got this DVD - if not rush out and buy it immediately.

If you`re not sure whether you like the band, also rush out and buy this disc immediately, because you will be a fan after seeing and hearing "Unplugged".

Great picture, great sound, great music and three gorgeous women add up to 72 minutes of top-notch entertainment.

    Recommended.
