Review of Killing, The
Introduction
After getting out of a 5yr stint in Alcatraz, hoodlum Johnny Clay masterminds a daring daylight robbery in which `no one will get hurt`. He plans to hit a racetrack on the day of the big race, hoping to score $2m and retire with his sweetheart Fay abroad. The only flaw is he does not consider one of his partners` unfaithful wife and her greedy boyfriend…
Video
The picture, despite the film being made over 45yrs ago, looks in pretty good shape. Presented in its original 4:3 format, the level of detail is consistently high, whilst the video still retains the gritty film noir atmosphere.
Audio
The soundtrack seems to be 2 channel mono, and provides just what you would want - hiss-free, with good clarity from the dialogue and soundtrack.
Features
The only extra here is the original theatrical trailer.
Conclusion
If you already have Warner`s fantastic Kubrick boxset, this is well worth a buy too to supplement what is already a great collection. Although it doesn`t have too much in the way of extras (not unlike many of the Warner titles) it remains a great film that not too many have heard about despite it ranking in the IMDB Top 250. The Killing is superbly tense and wonderfully intelligent, I recommend it highly.
