    Review of Triple Cross

    4 / 10

    Introduction

Based on true story set in Wolrd War II Christoper Plummer plays Eddie Chapman, a charismatic safe cracker caught between both side and willing to sell his services as a spy to the highest bidder.

This movie has the usual all star billing you`d expect from a sixties war movie, complete with the obligatory gaudy score to remind you of the era.

    Video

The almost full frame picture is a pleasant surprise. It`s quite sharp and seemed largely free on any grain or film marks.

The colours were a little flat and unnatural but considering the age of the film I was overall impressed.

    Audio

What can I say about a mono soundtrack? It`s an old film and you wouldn`t expect anything else to be honest. It`s not particularly sharp either but again no surprise.

The music in this movie carried all the hallmarks of a 1960`s movie and was really not to my taste, looking ahead I wonder what future generations will make of scores by John Williams in the years to come :).

    Features

Nothing to write home about here. There`s trailers for this movie along with `First of the Few` and `Britannic` plus a selection of static text pages about the film and cast.

    Conclusion

Whilst the true story is intriguing it doesn`t work as a movie for me. It`s probably got allot to do with not being a fan of older films however the whole thing seemed a little too cheeky for my liking. I was expecting something a bit more serious and whilst it`s hardly a comedy there`s a satirical edge to the movie that`s hard to put your finger on and left me feeling unsure of what to make of it.

I also found it dragged in places and I had trouble staying interested.

Overall then this is likely to be the best version of this movie you can expect to see and whether to purchase or not comes down to your taste in movies. It`s not my cup of tea but I bet my Dad would love it :).
