Synopsis:
In his grittiest role since `Get Carter`, Michael Caine delivers a knock out performance as a ruthless boxing promoter in Shiner. Caine returns to his South London roots for a frighteningly believable performance that has been singled out for praise by the critics.
A British film set and shot in London, Shiner sees Caine return to impressive form as Billy Simpson, boxing promoter come Cockney gangster. A proud, bullying and larger than life character, Billy (Shiner) sees his long awaited chance to make it to the big time by arranging a world title fight between his heavyweight son, Golden Boy, played by Matthew Marsden (`Black Hawk Down`, Coronation Street), and the vicious American champion managed by Shiner`s adversary Frank Spedding Played by Hollywood`s legendary Martin Landau).
Investing everything he has to make his dream fight become a reality, Shiner is riding high as the preparations are put in place and the TV cameras start rolling.
As his past starts catching up with, him, however, events begin spiralling out of control and it soon becomes clear that, for Shiner, the fighting and real action have only just begun....
