Review of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
Introduction
After the travesty of a disc that accompanied the previous film (12 chapters of movie and nothing else), my hopes weren`t too high for this one. I wasn`t very impressed by the content last time either, so how does this sequel fare on both counts?
The plot "carries on" from the first film, and moves to a slightly more exotic location in the Bahamas, but the ingredients are much the same. The killer is on their trail, they can`t escape, it`s dark and it`s raining.
Video
Here`s a good start - an anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer which is far to superior to the previous film. Plenty of night scenes and lots of other running about in the dark, all of which look very good on this disc.
No real special effects here, just some gory moments as the killer strikes and the victims find more dead bodies, wondering whether they`ll be next.
Audio
Another improvement over the previous film - a DD5.1 soundtrack is provided here. And it is actually used to quite good effect in some scenes, thereby adding something to the film, which the previous film`s soundtrack certainly didn`t.
Features
And yet another victory over the previous disc - some extras. Unfortunately they`re not very good.
The only extra of any note is the music video for "How Do I Deal" performed by the film`s star, Jennifer Love Hewitt. This is a bland, radio-friendly little number which is pretty average. Therefore it`s not surprising to find that she hasn`t launched a music career yet.
There is also a featurette - which is just a 5 minute promo which tells you nothing of any interest about the film, and there are trailers and filmographies, and these are the usual fare.
Conclusion
This disc is a lot better than the previous film in the technical areas of sound, vision and extras. Unfortunately the film itself is a tired re-hash of the previous film, which itself was a rather tired re-hash of many older and better films.
You might want to rent it if you`re bored and there`s nothing else left in the shop, or if you`ve seen the first film, but I can`t really see any reason for buying it at all.
